Celebrating Africa Day: A Night of Unity and Cultural Splendor
The grand Durbar Hall at The Taj Palace Hotel
in New Delhi came alive with vibrant colors, rhythmic music, and a palpable sense of
unity on June 25, 2024, as diplomats, dignitaries, and guests gathered to celebrate
Africa Day. This auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of Mr. Kapil Suri, our
Director, who joined in the festivities to honor the deepening ties between India and
the African continent.
The evening began with the arrival of African diplomats, as screens around the hall
displayed captivating videos showcasing tourism and investment opportunities across
various African nations, all set to the backdrop of lively African music. The atmosphere
was one of excitement and anticipation as guests mingled and exchanged greetings.
The formal proceedings commenced with the arrival of the Dean of the African Heads of
Missions (AHOMs), His Excellency Mr. Ermindo Augusto Ferreira, High Commissioner of the
Republic of Mozambique. He was warmly received by Her Excellency Ms. Jacqueline
Mukangira, High Commissioner of Rwanda and Chairperson of the Protocol Committee. The
event then welcomed the distinguished guests with a delightful serving of snacks while
continuing to highlight the vast potential of G20 and African tourism and investment
opportunities through engaging video presentations.




A highlight of the celebration was a mesmerizing dance performance by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Cultural Troupe, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent of India. The performance set the stage for the arrival of the Chief Guest, His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, Government of India. The Chief Guest was honored with a bouquet presented by the Dean of AHOMs, symbolizing the warm and cordial relations between India and Africa. The solemnity of the occasion was marked by the national anthems of the Republic of India and the African Union, followed by the screening of a short film on the India-Africa partnership, emphasizing the strong and growing bond between the two regions. In his remarks, the Dean of AHOMs, H.E. Mr. Ermindo Augusto Ferreira, highlighted the historical ties and future prospects of collaboration between Africa and India. This was followed by a recorded message from the African Union Commission Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, who underscored the significance of solidarity and mutual support in fostering development and prosperity. The Chief Guest, H.E. Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, delivered an inspiring address, reaffirming India's commitment to strengthening its partnership with African nations through various initiatives and cooperative efforts. His speech resonated with the audience, emphasizing shared values and common goals




The celebration continued with a captivating dance performance by a Mozambican troupe, which enthralled the audience with their traditional moves and vibrant costumes. The dancers were felicitated by the Chief Guest, acknowledging their contribution to the cultural tapestry of the evening. In her vote of thanks, H.E. Ms. Jacqueline Mukangira expressed gratitude to all attendees for making the event a resounding success. She also highlighted the efforts of those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a seamless and memorable celebration.
The evening concluded with a group photograph of the African Heads of Missions with the Chief Guest, capturing a moment of unity and camaraderie. Guests then enjoyed a sumptuous buffet and drinks, with more videos on G20 and African tourism and investment opportunities playing in the background, sparking conversations and networking among the attendees. As the event drew to a close, it was evident that Africa Day 2024 had successfully showcased the enduring friendship and cooperation between India and Africa, promising a bright and prosperous future built on shared aspirations and mutual respect.
